[PATCH] sqlite3 connection from symlinked directory causes SQLite3::CantOpenException in Rails

ActiveRecord can't connect to SQLite3 database in following case.

  • called from Rails
  • RAILS_ROOT contains symblic link

It is because Ruby's File.expand_path is not based on Unix path resolution.

For example: 

% ln -s /home/rails/myapp/public /var/www/myapp
# RAILS_ROOT is "/var/www/myapp/../config/.."

File.expand_path('db/test.db', RAILS_ROOT)
=> "/var/www/db/test.db"  # not exists

Fixing this with [3245] has an undesired sideeffect/regression in the case where the database is outside RAILS_ROOT and is *not* a symlink.

The attached patch should fix the problem and leave the previous fix intact. Not tested on win32, but I believe File.symlink? always returns false on win32, so it should work there too.
